The Buffalo Sabres are reportedly open to bringing in Kevin Weeknes to a new deal, with the 22-year-old defenseman reportedly willing to return to his native Ontario, where he has spent the past two seasons.
According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, the team has agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with Weeknes, which would include $2.5-million in incentives.
Weeknes spent his first two seasons in the AHL with the Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames.
The signing of Weeknes would add depth to the team’s blueline, which was in need of more scoring from the bluelines’ blue-line.
The 23-year old is coming off an incredible season with the Flames in which he was second among North American skaters in points (1,087) and tied for first in plus/minus (+22) and was third among North America skaters with 53 penalty minutes.
